Origins: Ecuador, Peru

Bloom: Short, compound inflorescence with short red bracts and magenta flowers.  Produces pups on the bloom spike

Light: Strong indirect light, partial direct light

Ideal for: Indoors/Outdoors

Water: Spray or dunk twice a week, allow to dry within 6-8 hours.  Soak monthly to rehydrate up to 4 hours as necessary

 

Once called murorum, several varietals like this were reclassified as a form of latifolia.  This form has shorter, thicker leaves and viviparous growth habits (pups on the bloom spike).  It is a xeric species that can handle a drier climate and is not particularly prone to rotting, making it a nice hardy plant for many climates.  Forms cool chains over time if pups are left to grow
