Origins: Mexico, West Indies, Central and South America
Bloom: Red inflorescence and bracts with purple tubular flowers
Ideal for: Indoors or Outdoors
Light: Adaptable, best in indirect light
Water: Spray or dunk once a week, allow to dry within 6-8 hours. Turn upside down to dry or put somewhere with good air flow to ensure moisture doesn't get trapped in the large bulbous base, causing the plant to rot. Soak monthly to rehydrate up to 4 hours as necessary
Bulbosa is another commonly available and fairly hardy species. Bulbosa is a myrmecophyte, meaning its large bulbous base can act as a space for ants and other small critters to colonize. Bulbosa can be grown in any direction, so get creative with how you display it! These plants can adapt to a wide range of conditions; they prefer indirect light and more frequent moisture as they are native to rainforest-like environments.
