Origins: Bird Rock Tropicals greenhouse hybrid
Bloom: Short, simple inflorescence with a red/reddish bract and bicolor white and purple tubular flower
Light: Strong indirect and/or filtered light, some direct light okay
Water: Spray or dunk twice weekly, allow to dry between watering. Soak monthly to rehydrate up to 4 hours as necessary
Acquired from Bird Rock Tropicals as Tillandsia schiedeana x, this plant has a cool shape and produces nice color. The way the leaves stack and grow erect leads me to believe it’s crossed with ionantha. The leaf stacking is dense and plant grows tight and upright. Upper foliage produces a nice blush during bloom, leaves are lepidote and it tends to enjoy dry conditions like a true xeric. Reminds me of a larger Tillandsia x rectifolia which makes sense given the parentage. Most people don’t have room in their collections for unnamed hybrids but if you do, this is a good one to consider
