This plant was an unnamed, unregistered hybrid in Mark Dimmitt’s greenhouse. Len Colgan acquired one from him and once it bloomed, realized it definitely needed a name and conferred with Mark to make it Lilac Spire. There are many stricta x duratii and reverse hybrids, but the size and shape of this one are spectacular. Dense leaf stacking, a slight spiral pattern to the leaves which are duratii-like in their appearance. It’s been a reluctant bloomer for me but a very prolific pupper. Usually the plant almost bifurcates from the rosette and splits into two or more plants
