This is a soft leaved fragrant species from Ecuador and Peru.  It produces on of the larger tillandsia flowers which is purple in color and has a delicious fragrance.  Despite having a more mesic appearance, this plant has done well in regular temps as low as 40 and grows quite quickly. Best grown in a fast draining, bark heavy substrate. Reclassified to the genus Racinea in 2017
